Collecting straw with the tractor..
In 1980 Warner van der Sluis started collecting straw from the polder. A friend of his from the agricultural school introduced him to this business. Warner became enthusiastic and a little later he also started to collect straw from Groningen, where it was stored in a shed. This way Warner could provide the farmers with straw the whole year round. He did this from the farm of his parents at the Schiphorsterweg 8. It took him 3 hours to drive to Groningen with his tractor!
When the first truck came..
In 1982 the first truck was purchased, after which he soon started working in Germany among other places, and also started transported hay. Two years later a second truck was added and Warner started to expand the activities together with his brother Klaas. With this second car they started transporting among other things, corn, brewers grains and pulp.
In 1985 the parents of Warner bought a farm at the Schiphorsterweg 27, where it was possible to store agricultural products and a year later the first container truck arrived. In this way the company expanded every year with more personnel and more trucks.
VDS Transport and LCM Expeditie..
In 2006 Van der Sluis Transport started with covered trailer activities and with this began to focus on Scandinavia, mainly Denmark. The company grew bigger and bigger, so in 2009 it was decided to split the company into VDS Transport (bulk transport) and LCM Expeditie (covered trailer transport).
When his father passed away, Warner and his wife Jeannet moved to the Schiphorsterweg and in 2012 the company building was modernized and expanded.
New premises and how it is now..
In 2015, land was purchased in Rogat and in early 2017 both companies moved to Verlengde Industrieweg in Rogat. The company now consists of about 12 office employees, 85 drivers, 65 trucks and its own workshop with two employees for repair and maintenance of the fleet. Meanwhile son Niels is also working in the office.
Warner still lives at the Schiphorsterweg 27 and has transformed the old warehouse into horse stables and riding school, where he has a breeding farm and jumping stables, called VDS Horses. Together with his daughter Manon he shares his passion for horses and in his spare time he can often be found with the horses.
